  • Many people are fed up with the AI-generated summaries Google shows at the top of search results. These summaries, created by a computer program, can sometimes be misleading or outright wrong—like that time it suggested drinking pee for kidney stones (gross!). While you can’t completely turn them off yet, there are ways to avoid seeing them most of the time.

Here’s a simple trick: use the “Web” search option. This shows search results without the annoying summaries, videos, and other extras. If you’re using Chrome on a computer, you can also create a custom search engine. Go to Chrome settings, find “Search engine” and “Manage search engines.” Click “Add” and name your new search engine something like “Google Web.” In the URL bar, put {google:baseURL}/search?udm=14&q=%s and click “Add” to make this your default search engine. You can also try different browsers or install extensions to bypass these summaries. If you’re outside the US, you might not see these summaries yet, but keep this guide handy just in case they show up later!
